VISUAL POEMS – REFLECTIONS ON BEING

After graduating from goldsmiths college in 1995 I moved to a studio in Hoxton, East London and remained there for 15 years. Many of the paintings from this period reflect that urban environment, some directly using a camera, others by reflecting on the world we build (and destroy) for ourselves using images taken from the media or in a cartoon style with a heavy narrative slant.

Now based in Finstock, Oxfordshire, the paintings are more than ever taken directly from nature , though still using a camera and made in the studio. The focus now being about energy and the shifting, transient nature inherent in living environments.

I hope these paintings can act as visual poems, reflections on being rather than scenic or overtly decorative.
